General Surgery

The General Surgery department consists of thirteen highly qualified consultant surgeons, who offer a range of specialty services for patients requiring surgery for the following conditions.  Below are details of our General Surgeons and the areas of surgery in which they specialise.

Accessing the Service

Referral through your GP and via Choose and Book.

The services offered by many of our Consultants are also available privately at the L&D's Cobham Clinic.  Referral is through your GP.

  • Miss Katherine BrownBiographyMS FRCS FRCS (Gen Surg) Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon since 2002, with specialist colorectal training at the Royal London Hospital. Specialising in the investigation of colorectal problems and all open colorectal procedures and surgery. Member of ASGBI, ACPGBI.
  • Miss Marion ObichereBiography(Gen Surg) MBChB, FRCS (Eng), MD, FRCS, Consultant Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgeon since 2007, specialising in colorectal surgery and management of entire spectrum of colorectal disorders. Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopist. Dedicated trainer and Royal College of Surgeons Surgical Tutor.
  • Miss Sarah Cheslyn-CurtisBiographyMS, FRCS (Eng) FRCS (Gen Surg) Consultant Surgeon specialising in Pancreato-biliary including ERCP and General Paediatric Surgery, since 1993. Member of the Royal College of Surgeons' Children's Surgical Forum. Special interests are pancreatic and gallstone disease and Children's General Surgery.
  • Mr Asher AlamBiographyMBBS, FRCS, FRCS (Urology) Consultant Surgeon specialising in laparoscopic upper tract and pelvic cancer. He has special interest in urogynaecology providing laparoscopic vaginal prolapse, in uterine preserving surgery and complex vaginal and female urologic reconstructive surgery.

  • Mr Douglas WhitelawBiographyFRCS (Ed) (Gen.Surg), Consultant Pancreatobiliary and laparoscopic surgeon since 2004, specialising in bariatric and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery and ERCP.

  • Mr Marco BarrecaBiographyMD Consultant General Surgeon since 2002 specialising in Upper-GI(Oesophageal and gastric),laparoscopic (Fellowship at UWMC Seattle, WA),and bariatric surgery. Mr Barreca is, among others, a member of AGA and SAGES.
