Proposed merger between Luton & Dunstable University Hospital and Bedford Hospital

The Trust Boards of Luton & Dunstable University Hospital and Bedford Hospital are exploring plans to merge and form one NHS Trust, with effect from April 2018.

As a single NHS Trust, both hospitals will retain their identity and individual hospital names. This will bring many benefits for patients including improved continuity of care. A&E, maternity and paediatrics services will remain on both sites, and clinical services at both hospitals will work together to improve health care services for all patients across Bedfordshire and beyond.

On 19th December 2017 both Trust Boards unanimously approved the Full Business Case (FBC) for the proposed merger. The FBC will now undergo intensive review as part of the NHSI approvals process and a public summary can be viewed here later this month (Jan 2018).
