Trade Union Facility Time
The Trade Union (Facility Time Publication Requirements) Regulations 2017 came into force on the 1st April 2017. These regulations place a legislative requirement on relevant public sector employers to collate and publish, on an annual basis, a range of data on the amount and cost of facility time within their organisation.
During the passage of the Trade Union Act, the Government committed to develop guidance to help employers meet this new legislative requirements and, to ensure a high level of transparency and consistency across organisations.
Trade Unions play an important role in the modern workplace. There are significant benefits to both employers and employees when organisations and unions work together effectively, but facility time within the public sector must be accountable and represent value for money. The regulations provide a framework for open and transparent monitoring.
