The Luton and Dunstable Podiatry Clinic provides multidisciplinary foot care for patients with acute Diabetic foot problems including:

  • Patients with suspected or diagnosed active Charcot
  • Critical ischaemia
  • Infection
  • Gangrene
  • Tissue necrosis
  • New or worsening ulceration

Care is provided in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The Podiatry Diabetes services works in close collaboration with our Diabetes and Microbiology Consultants, Vascular and orthopaedics, aimed at ensuring appropriate clinical management and reducing/ preventing hospital admissions, or reducing length of hospital stay

Procedures Provided

The clinic offers each patient an assessment, using NICE guidelines and an individualised treatment plan. Specialist treatments include:

  • Ulcer debridement and appropriate wound dressing,
  • Referral to the plaster room for Total contact casting when required
  • Review of lower limb circulation with prompt referral when indicated to the vascular team
  • Antibiotic therapy as indicated
  • Pressure relief/offloading for wounds
  • A management plan for each patient to reduce risk of re ulceration once healed
