The L&D will be marking Baby Loss Awareness Week with an event on Wednesday 12 October on the ground floor of the hospital’s Surgical Block to help raise awareness of pregnancy loss and how to access support for those who have experienced it.
As well as an information stand and the opportunity to talk to our Pregnancy Loss team and colleagues from the charity CHUMS, there will be a cake sale and raffle, with proceeds going towards supporting bereaved families at the L&D. The event will run from 9am to 4.30pm.
Tracey McGrath, Pregnancy Loss Midwife, said: “We wanted to hold an event to coincide with Baby Loss Awareness Week and to provide an opportunity for people to learn more about how we can support families who have lost a child which in the UK may be as much as one in five. It is also a time when families and friends can acknowledge and remember their babies who have died.”In partnership with CHUMS, the L&D’s Pregnancy Loss team runs a group meeting in Luton on the third Wednesday of every month for women who have had stillborn babies or babies who have died soon after birth. Another group is being launched for women who have lost babies before 18 weeks, and this will be held on the second Wednesday of every month, from 7pm – 9pm in the Maternity Meeting Room at the L&D.
Wave of Light
Baby Loss Awareness Week closes with an international ‘Wave of Light’ 15 October, where candles are lit at 7pm across the world as part of the international Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.
