Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Don’t miss the Pink Friday coffee morning and cake sale on 25 October 10am – 12noon at the Breast Screening Service at the L&D. All proceeds will benefit our Breast Screening Unit which is one of the largest in the country.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and it’s a good time to remember that breast screening saves lives. Breast screening is offered free, to all women aged 50 – 70 and aims to find cancer at an early stage, often before there are any symptoms. For every 500 women who are screened, a life will be saved. Please see our breast screening video.

The Beds and Herts Breast Screening Service at the L&D is part of the National Breast Screening Programme and is contributing to a national trial to extend the screening age to women aged 47 to 73 by 2016.

If you, or someone you know has received an invitation for breast screening, it is very important to attend the appointment. Screening takes place using the latest digital equipment either in one of our mobile units conveniently located at different sites across Beds and Herts, or at the Breast Screening Service at the hospital.
