The Luton and Dunstable University Hospital’s (L&D) Midwife Led Birth Unit (MLBU) are pleased to offer new mothers to be alternative birthing options that they may not be aware of through its new ‘Maternity Menu’.
At the L&D Women’s choice is at the top of the agenda. The Maternity Ward cares for more than 5,300 mothers a year and supports a variety of birthing options through the new Maternity Menu, offering choice based on personal preference.
The Midwifery Led Birth Unit (MLBU) at the L&D features four en suite rooms, including a pool room, where eligible mothers can choose to experience a home-from-home environment supported by a dedicated team of midwives, with the added security of knowing they are on hospital grounds and next to the consultant obstetric led delivery suite should they need anything.
Stella Roberts, Consultant Midwife said: “The launch of our maternity menu reinforces our commitment to offering women a greater choice of birthing options.
Our expert trained Midwifes highlight the benefits of giving birth under midwifery care and ensure all mothers-to-be are well informed about the birthing options available to them at the L&D.”
Sarah Flain, who chose to give birth under midwifery care at the L&D said:
“Having a baby is possibly the most exciting and terrifying thing a couple can ever do. I chose to come to the L&D to have my babies because of its reputation and the amazing team of midwives and neonatal specialists just in case we needed it.
Looking back it’s amazing how something as simple as the room you have your baby in can make such a difference to how you feel about the whole experience. I felt totally safe giving birth under midwifery care and would recommend the experience to future eligible mothers.”
To further promote women’s choice and to showcase the benefits of Midwife led birthing, the L&D are inviting mothers-to-be, families and health professionals to find out more about the MLBU on Saturday 3rd March 2018. The event will be held in the Maternity and Women’s Health building and refreshments will be available.
