Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (L&D) are delighted that the millionth finisher in the London Marathon is Shannon Foudy, who was running her first marathon on Sunday 24 April 2016 in support of our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
In January 2010, Shannon gave birth to her daughter Catrin who weighed only 2Ib 5oz at just 26 weeks. Having survived organ failure and a brain haemorrhage while in NICU, Catrin is now a thriving six year old.
Sarah Amexheta, Fundraising Manager at the L&D, said, “I would like to thank Shannon for taking on the challenge of the London Marathon and raising money for our NICU. It is an outstanding achievement and the money she has raised will help us buy additional lifesaving equipment!”
The L&D’s NICU is one of only three top level units in the East of England, taking the very sickest and the most premature babies from across the region, as well as all the local babies that need specialist neonatal care.
