Recognition for our commitment to equality

The L&D has been recognised for its commitment to improving equality. The accolade comes from NHS Employers, which advises NHS organisations across England and is part of the NHS Confederation.

The L&D is the only NHS organisation in the East of England region to be selected for NHS Employers’ Equality and Diversity programme for 2013-14.

L&D Non Executive Director Jagtar Singh OBE, said:
“At the L&D, we believe that equality and diversity is a journey rather than a destination. We have maintained a firm commitment to embed equality into our core business and we continue to invest and make changes to help people who might otherwise suffer disadvantage, so they can access good healthcare which meets their needs.”

“Receiving this NHS accreditation for our equality work helps us on our journey to reduce health inequalities, and sharing ideas and good practice with other NHS organisation will benefit patients, staff and the diverse community we serve.”

Two examples where the L&D has committed to better equality are:

  • The maternity department virtual tour is a video for mums-to-be which is available in several different languages including Polish and Urdu to reflect the cultural diversity of the local community.
  • Our learning disability nursing team train hospital staff so they can adjust services to meet the needs of people with learning disabilities. They also support this patient group so that their experience of hospital is a positive one.
