The Rheumatology Team have been shortlisted for a Luton and Bedfordshire Community Award for their commitment to patients.
The Rheumatology team works hard to improve education to the local community about arthritis, and in particular inflammatory arthritis. It is important that people are able to recognise the signs and symptoms of these conditions early and seek help from their GP.
The team regularly hold information evenings which are very popular and they are already planning the next event in March which will focus on osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.
All sessions are open to anyone who would like to attend. Joint pain and swelling is not normal and people should seek help and advice. If it is the beginnings of early inflammatory arthritis there are many different treatments on offer and early treatment can prevent further damage to the joints and relieve symptoms.
The Rheumatology department aims to raise the profile of arthritis and staff work closely with local GPs by providing them with extra education sessions and making it easier for them to refer people with suspected inflammatory arthritis to the hospital for specialist treatment.
