Clinical Commissioning Groups in Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire have been working hard to transfer patient transport services over to East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, the new caretaker provider of non-emergency patient transport, after Private Ambulance Service informed us that it was no longer able to fulfil the terms of its contract.
We are focussing our recovery work on patients that need transport services most, by prioritising appointments for renal, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and discharges from hospital.We are reviewing all out patient appointments for Tuesday and Wednesday, in order to prioritise their need for patient transport. We would ask patients who are able to walk or make their own way to appointments to do so.
Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Luton CCGs will reimburse patients for their transport if they save their receipt.
In the meantime, EEAST has set up a call centre for patients who are attending appointments this week and would like to confirm a booking. Please contact 01603 481 208.
If you have a general enquiry, we would ask that you do not use the call centre number this week, so that we can prioritise patients who need the service most.
