Young patients and staff at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital (L&D) celebrated National Play in Hospital Week with a visit from charity partner, Awesome Themed Kids Parties.
The event, which ran from Monday 7th to Saturday 12th October aims to raise awareness of the positive impact of play in a hospital setting.
With 49,000 children and young people in the UK living with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, the need for play and entertainment services for children in hospitals has never been greater. The children and staff were delighted to meet a range of story book characters and take part in craft activities with them.
A very happy patient received a visit from the story book characters!
Kirsty Morgan, Lead Play Therapist at the L&D, said:
“It is so important that our young patients experience play while in hospital. It can be such a stressful and anxious time for them and their families, and play helps them deal with this. It is vital in their development of learning, building relationships and carrying on with day-to-day life. We would like to thank Awesome Themed Kids Parties for coming in and putting a smile on so many faces!’
