L&D Obesity Centre

Although eating well and exercising is vital in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, for many people there is an urgent need for medical and surgical intervention. Here at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital we provide specialised treatment for people with obesity, helping them manage their weight and health issues.

In the UK we have one of the fastest growing rates of obesity in Europe. It is estimated that 20% of our current population is obese, and this number is expected to rise significantly in the near future. Obesity and weight management poses a huge risk to the NHS (from both a financial aspect and for the well-being of our patients). It is likely that many obese people will need long term medical care for conditions such as:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Sleep Apnoea
