Barrett’s Oesophagus

Barrett’s Oesophagus is caused through long-standing reflux of acid into the oesophagus (the gullet).

The lining of the gullet changes permanently to resemble that of the stomach or intestine and, in a very small number of people, oesophageal cancer can develop.

People diagnosed with Barrett’s oesophagus are usually called in to have a gastroscopy with small biopsies every two years.
