Definition of abuse:
Abuse is the violation of an individual’s human and civil rights which result in injury or emotional suffering by any other person or persons.

Who is a vulnerable adult? (over the age of 18)

  • Someone who is unable to take care of themselves
  • Someone who is unable to protect themselves against significant harm or serious exploitation

Who may be the abuser?

  • A relative
  • A neighbour/friend
  • Other service users
  • Professional staff
